Types of Lenses

The right eyeglass lens for you largely depends on function. As a leading vision care practice, we offer a wide variety of lenses, including:

  • Single vision to correct one viewing distance (either near, intermediate or distance)
  • Bifocal, which is split into two sections (distance vision and near vision) and commonly used to treat presbyopia
  • Trifocal, which provides three focal points to help you see at different distances
  • Progressive, similar to bifocal lens but provides vision at all distances with a continuous gradient strength lens for more natural vision

Specialized protective coatings are also available to help protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Night Vision coating helps to reduce the blinding glare of oncoming headlights. Polarized lenses help protect your eyes from the sun’s UV rays and are ideal for sports (especially for fishermen) and outdoor exercise.

Anti-reflective lenses eliminate glare and reflections off the surface of your glasses, and therefore are perfect for outdoor settings and driving. Both polarized and anti-reflective lenses help eliminate your need to squint and reduce eye fatigue, tension and eyestrain. For individuals who prefer to have only one set of eyeglasses for both inside and outdoors, photochromatic lenses are a good option. Photochromatic lenses change color depending on the environment; the lenses are clear indoors and dark outdoors. These can be incorporated with progressive lenses to see all distances as well.

Computer glasses are prescription eyewear designed to help you focus at computer-screen distance, relieving a slew of digital eyestrain symptoms. Depending on your vision needs, your computer eyeglasses may consist of single, bifocal and progressive lenses. Keep in mind that computer glasses are not designed for general use or for driving.

When helping you select your eyeglass lenses, our eye doctor will consider long-term wear, comfort, style, features and function.
